The Silverlake Children's Theatre Group (SCTG) is an incorporated 501(c)3 organization.  It provides dramatic training and major productions for young people 3-18 years old. Our mission is to use the power of theatre to develop critical thinking and self-confidence, as well as to engage the imagination. Our plays and programs are designed to develop and nurture young talent while broadening their awareness of culture, politics, aesthetics and the human condition. Finally, we seek to guide children beyond the boundaries of their professed limitations by helping them surmount unusual challenges unique to this theatre group.

The SCTG goal is to enrich, inspire, challenge and expand our children’s world through the dramatic arts; and act as catalysts for community relationships and alliances. Our immediate goals – beyond the summer academy, creative courses and dramatic productions - are to establish weekly acting classes for children; find a permanent SCTG home for rehearsals and performances; and hire administrative personnel to oversee the day-to-day operations of the theatre company. In order to accomplish these goals we must pursue foundation, grant money and benefactors sympathetic to our cause.

Each year the SCTG presents spring and fall productions generated from original material created within the company. Past and present shows have all explored challenging topical themes with humor, song and a healthy skepticism.   Recent plays include: The Community Producers (2004); Buy America (2005); Free Will (2006); Havana, Dumb White Crackers (2007); Teatro Della Morte; The Color and the Noise (2008)

Summer Theatre Academy.  The SCTG hosts a Summer Theatre Academy where local professionals teach Acting, Voice, Directing, Writing, Improvisation, Dance, Mime, Martial Combat, Magic, On-Camera technique, and other related classes with an emphasis on developing confidence. Children aged 5-15 are encouraged to apply.
