March 6 – April 26, 2009  | HAPPY features paintings by Devon T.S. Tsuno. “A Nature Calculation” observes the landscape of Los Angeles by simultaneously fragmenting and evaluating his life long home. Painted from images taken while on fishing and biking sojourns along the San Gabriel River, the Los Angeles River, and the east side of Los Angeles; Tsuno’s abstractions recall a city organism composed of beautifully ordered concrete and metal, integrated and often interdicted by violent layers of vegetation. He uses spray paint and acrylic paint, to re-imagine Los Angeles through color theory and hard edge abstraction. |
Devon T.S. Tsuno was born and raised in Los Angeles; he currently works in Echo Park. He received his MFA from Claremont Graduate University in 2005, and a BFA from California State University, Long Beach in 2002. His work has been shown in Los Angeles at Carl Berg Gallery, Sam Lee Gallery, Whittier College and Raid Projects. Tsuno is currently an instructor at Cal State Long Beach, Cypress College, ULV and East Los Angeles College.
